Our History
Fletcher’s Butchers has stood proud in the town of Norton, North Yorkshire, since the early 1920s. Started by the Fletcher family, who ran shops in Scarborough and in Bridlington, Mr Fletcher handed over the reins to his apprentice, Eric Hogg in 1962. Eric is fondly remembered in the shop and the wider community, not only for his butcher related jokes, but also his hard work and determination to provide the best quality meats and service without exception.
Eric encouraged his son, Peter, into the business in 1977, and a new family tradition was born. Peter proved himself to be highly skilled and dedicated to the task and took over the running of the butcher’s shop 20 years ago. Eric kept a keen eye on the business until the last, and his passion and fervour lives on in his son.
Peter Hogg now manages a team of 10 staff and continues to develop new ideas and recipes to keep up with customer demand. Peter is proud father to 5 children; Ruth, James, Sarah, Megan and Mary, who have all helped out in the shop during holidays and busy periods, maintaining the family tradition of the business. Peter’s long suffering wife, Anne, has also been in the bakehouse and remembers receiving a bread-maker as an anniversary gift which was soon put to good use for the benefit of the shop!
Always looking for new ways to provide quality produce to their customers, Peter’s daughter Megan has also recently completed a catering qualification and has brought cakes and tray-bakes to the mix, whilst Peter has been developing homemade salami and chorizo using the finest Yorkshire meats. There is a lovely feeling within the shop, and this butcher’s remains a cornerstone of the local community.
